Bruno Gambone

Minimalist Stoneware Pitcher by Bruno Gambone, Italy, 1960s

An exceptional studio pottery pitcher, designed and handcrafted by the renowned Italian ceramicist Bruno Gambone in Florence, dating to the 1970s/1980s. This piece perfectly reflects the stylistic continuity between Bruno and his father, Guido Gambone. Rather than a break from tradition, Bruno’s work represents a direct evolution of the minimalist, heavyweight stoneware (gres) experiments that characterized Guido's final, mature period in the 1960s. The pitcher features a robust, architectural silhouette with a thick, perfectly integrated loop handle and a subtle, geometric spout. The glaze composition is a sophisticated exercise in raw contrast: a clean, matte off-white stoneware base is dramatically interrupted by a heavy, visceral dark manganese drip glaze covering the upper section. The natural, unpredictable dripping highlights the organic quality of the firing process. It stands as a brilliant synthesis of functional object and modernist ceramic sculpture, capturing the deepest, most refined legacy of the Gambone workshop.
