Iconic Lady Armchair designed by Marco Zanuso, featuring a steel frame upholstered in mustard-toned fabric. Produced by Arflex, Italy, early 2000s. Original manufacturer’s label on the underside. Originally designed in 1951 by Marco Zanuso for Arflex, the Lady armchair was awarded the Gold Medal at the 9th Milan Triennale in the same year. The Lady armchair is considered a masterpiece of modern Italian design, representing a breakthrough in upholstered furniture production. Its innovative construction introduced the separate manufacturing and subsequent assembly of individual components, redefining traditional upholstery techniques. A defining feature of the chair is the use of new materials for the period, such as elastic webbing and polyurethane foam. The metal structure is fully covered with moulded flexible polyurethane foam, while the armrests are made of solid wood with upholstered padding. The legs are crafted in painted metal, contributing to the armchair’s light yet robust appearance.
