A rare and iconic Model 400 slatted bench, designed by the visionary artist and designer Harry Bertoia and manufactured by Knoll International, USA, in the late 1950s. This bench is a sublime exercise in linear geometry and modernist minimalism. It features a seat composed of sturdy wooden slats, which create a rhythmic play of light and shadow, supported by a minimalist black-lacquered metal frame. Bertoia’s background as a sculptor is evident in the bench’s architectural proportions and its "airy" presence, which allows it to define a space without cluttering it. As an authentic late-1950s production, this piece embodies the peak of the Knoll-Bertoia collaboration, showcasing the industrial elegance that transformed American and International interiors during the Mid-Century era. It is a versatile piece, functioning perfectly as seating, a low display table, or a structural element in a gallery-like setting. Literature S. Rouland, L.
