A sophisticated pair of wall shelves, Model 112B, designed by the master of Scandinavian Modernism Alvar Aalto and produced by Artek, Finland, circa 1960. Constructed entirely from natural birch, these shelves are celebrated for their elegant and ingenious support system. The brackets are made from curved birch plywood, utilizing Aalto’s pioneering wood-bending techniques to create a continuous, organic loop that provides both structural stability and a rhythmic visual appeal. The 1960s production is particularly prized for the quality of the timber and the warm, honey-toned patina that the birch develops over decades. These shelves are a perfect example of Aalto’s "Humanist Modernism," where functional objects are imbued with a natural, poetic soul. Literature T. Keinanen, P. Korvenmaa, K. Mikonranta, A.
